The façade lends itself to a wedge-shaped drop-off, creates a sense of privacy and security. The courtyard between main drop-off and reception, harnesses natural light and ventilation. Tucking the swimming pool in the wind channel at the rear addresses privacy concerns.
To achieve sustainable design in such extreme climate, block walls are used and glazing is relegated to only the window size for minimum heat gain, yet manages to achieve a lightweight elevation using mashrabiyas, pergolas, sunshades, louvers and fins to further reduce heat load. This hint of local motifs among the overall contemporary vocabulary alludes to a larger statement of standing tall, literally and metaphorically, in this traditional region.
